Antonio Valencia Reveals The Reason For His Poor Season

One of the biggest mysteries this season, other than how a United side fifteen points clear at the top of the table can still receive so little credit in the press, is the amazing drop in form of the Reds number 7.

 Antonio Valencia has become a shadow of the player who was terrorising defenders with aplomb this time last season, a man who this very site’s readers picked as their player of the season by an overwhelming majority.

Things have been very different for the Ecuadorian international in this campaign, as the slick haired one seems unwilling or unable to beat full backs, while a decent cross often seems like a distant memory from the right side of United’s wing.

The Mirror notes how Valencia admitted : “It’s not been quite the season I would have hoped for on a personal front,”
“I think the injuries I’ve had have held me back a bit. I still get the odd twinge from the last injury I had to my leg and that has perhaps affected my progress slightly.
“I hope to get the chance to be involved in as many games as possible.
“if I’m picked I’m determined to grab my opportunities and do my best for my team-mates, the manager and the fans.”

Many fans have even wondered whether Valencia will make the first team next season once Wilfried Zaha arrives at United and if the former Wigan man’s current form continues he probably won’t.

A fully fit Valencia, firing on all cylinders and rekindling the form of last season could see the Reds lift the double and I for one will be hoping there’s still a twist in the tale of what’s been a disappointing season for the man from Ecuador.
