Moyes staking his claim at the helm of United

New Manchester United manager David Moyes has given an indication of what his reign at the Old Trafford club is likely to consist of in the coming season. It seems he wants to put his own grip on the club, something which I support him on. If he copies Sir Alex Ferguson’s plan, he is never going to get praise for any success, but doing it his own way will. Moyes is due to start officially on Monday 1st July 2013, but as already began his work behind the scenes at the club.
Over the last few days Moyes has been in New York where he has given a conference to over 300 sports coaches and sporting directors. During the conference he said:
“You have to earn your stars when dealing with players. It’s up to you to show what you’ve got.
“If you want to work for me you need to be able to work seven days a week. I need to know my staff will give me that effort.
“Discipline has to come from within for players. And I’m a great believer in giving young players opportunities.
“Developing players mentally is very important, but it needs to fit with what the players want.
“You have to keep your eye on what the industry is doing — what’s new. And your recruiting as a manager can determine whether you keep your job.
“Everton needed a new direction when I came in and, as a coach, you have to find ways you can keep developing.”
Moyes also suggested that he would need to emulate Sir Ale Ferguson at the club and to do this he would start his own regime. He continued by saying:
“It’s a great honour to be appointed at Manchester United.
“But don’t assume your board of directors always have the answers. You need to influence.”
After reading his comments, he does seem to have a good head on his shoulders and you can easily see why he was appointed at the club. We now have to wait eagerly for the club to make the signings United need to stake their claim once again next season. We shall see how the new manager does during United’s pre-season tour of Thailand, Australia, Japan and Hong Kong before the curtain raiser of the season, the FA Community Shield against Wigan Athletic at Wembley.
