In his press conference today, ahead of
the second pre-season match against the A League All Stars at the ANZ
Stadium in Sydney tomorrow, David Moyes spoke about Manchester United’s
bid for Cesc Fabregas, which he confirmed yesterday. He suggests that
the clubs Executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward has been dealing with
Barcelona over the possible transfer.
During the press conference the manager
was asked if the club had been contacted by Barcelona regarding the
club’s bid for Fabregas, Moyes said:
I personally do not think that Moyes would speak about the Fabregas bid, if the club were not given an indication that the transfer could happen. It would how Moyes in the wrong light if it was to fail and straight away all the press and those fans that are already saying he is a failure, will just proliferate their negativity even more.“I couldn’t tell you exactly. I’m in contact with the executive vice chairman [Ed Woodward], who has been dealing with it just now.“I’ll hopefully know a little more in the next day or so. It’s the middle of the night back in England right now so I may have a bit more information in the next day or so about how it’s going.“We’re trying very hard to make some additions to the squad and hopefully there’ll be some good news in the not too distant future.”
It is good to see that the new manager
has seen that United’s midfield is weak and needs some attention. I
would welcome Fabregas to the side. He is a perfect replacement for Paul
Scholes and probably the closest match the club could find. At
26-year-old, Fabregas is just entering the peak of his career and I
believe he can achieve so much more. The one thing I do look forward to
is all the Arsenal supporters moaning about Fabregas, that sort of thing
will make my day!
