The home win
against Crystal Palace saw united climb back towards the top after a
relatively disappointing start. Undoubtedly performances from Michael
Carrick in the middle of the park and Wayne Rooney leading the line and
making a scoring return at the Old Trafford ranks will take the
headlines.
However this weeks unsung hero is a
player who came off the bench on his debut. No not the £27.5 million
pound man – Marouane Fellaini instead another Belgian; this one a highly
rated youngster Adnan Januzaj – whom had an impressive pre-season as he
fights for a starting place this year.
Not many players will be able to get a
praising review after only playing a small part that lasted only 23
minutes. However the winger dazzled when he came on.
It was refreshing to see a player who
was willing and wanting to go past players. With good pace and quick
feet that possess trickery and skills that excite. In a time when
wingers are lacking and are very hit and miss, it was pleasing to see
some youth that plays the way a winger at Manchester United should.
Januzaj who showed abilities both to
burst down the touch-line and cross with some conviction, as well as
being able to cut inside and cause havoc. It was doing just that, that
enticed a foul on him on the edge of the box which in turn was scored by
Wayne Rooney and sealed the game and the three points.
He showed comfort and maturity on the
ball, blended with youth and excitability of not knowing what was next.
One thing for sure is he is undoubtedly an exciting prospect and one to
watch for this season. I certainly will be hoping he gets some more game
time in the coming months.
