Mata’s the Man

It is no secret that every Manchester United fan is crying out for the club to invest in world class talent to reinvigorate the team, specifically in the creative midfield area. With every fans’ desired specification in mind one name constantly comes to mind, Juan Mata.
Chelsea’s Spanish maestro has endured a frustrating season under Jose Mourinho, spending the majority of games sat watching from the bench, despite the attacking midfielder being named the clubs player of the year two years running since his move from Valencia in 2011. Last season Mata was outstanding for the blues and you would have struggled to leave him out of the Spanish national teams starting 11, although with their vast range of world class players Mata will now be in serious danger of being overlooked come the world cup this summer in Brazil.

With both Mata’s Chelsea nightmare and Manchester United’s midfield crisis in mind, the solution is very easy to conclude. David Moyes needs to do whatever it takes to sign the Spaniard to save both his reputation and Juan Mata himself. On countless occasions this season United have got the ball into the attacking third and have been laboured, static and downright awful at creating goal scoring chances, the team needs a player with world class talent who, when at the business end of the pitch, can provide that spark that has been missing at old Trafford all season long. After two seasons full of goals, assists and defence splitting football, Juan Mata fits the required billing to a tee.

However such a signing is much easier said than done. It seems ever since the summer transfer window every fan at Old Trafford has lost faith of signing any player, let alone a world class player such as Juan Mata. And of course there is the fact that Mata plays for a rival club, Chelsea would not willingly sell such a top player to a rival team lightly, meaning his price would certainly sky-rocket.

Other factors that have to be considered is how Mata would feel about moving to Old Trafford. The Spanish midfielder would no doubt be one of the first names on David Moyes’ team sheet but would that be enough to persuade him to join a team that is struggling to contest for fourth place even if they are the current champions of England. Mata may also feel too much love and loyalty towards Chelsea Football club to betray the fans and move to a rival team. Whatever happens if Mata is to leave Chelsea in this transfer window he must sacrifice Champions league football to do so, as the Spaniard is cup tied after making two appearances in Europe with Chelsea this season.

With recent reports that Mourinho won’t stand in Mata’s way should he decide to move this month his availability cannot be questioned, therefore Mata must be made prime target this month by David Moyes if he is serious about bringing in world class talent and silencing those who mocked the clubs transfer dealings in the summer.
