Match Preview- Southampton vs Manchester United

At long, long, last we’ve finally reached the end. Sunday’s trip to the South Coast brings the curtain down on this seemingly endless, utterly shambolic, largely uninspiring campaign meaning we can all spend the next few months dreaming of returning to success, while our heads spin at the number of players United are linked with in the press.

PREVIEW: Manchester United v Norwich City

Old Trafford, Manchester
Saturday 26th April 2014 – KO 5:30pm
Referee: Lee Probert, Assistants: R Ganfield and M McDonough, Fourth Official: N Swarbrick

Manchester United have had an eventful week with the sacking of David Moyes, the appointment of Ryan Giggs as the interim manager with Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Phil Neville all being named as his coaching team. Chris Woods, the goalkeeping coach was also kept on at the club with Jimmy Lumbsden and Steve Round also being shown the door.

David Moyes has left Manchester United

It was confirmed by Manchester United at 8:30am this morning that David Moyes has left the club. United have not confirmed whether Moyes was sacked or whether he has left the club by mutual agreement, but the rumours that he would be fired gathered pace yesterday afternoon, and with the club refusing to quash the rumours, it was inevitable that he was not to be on the job for much longer. So far the clubs have said:

MATCH PREVIEW: Manchester United vs Bayern Munich

The last time Bayern Munich traveled to Old Trafford, they found themselves 3-0 down in less than 20 minutes, only to claw their way back into the game thanks, in no small part, to Rafael’s sending off, before Arjen Robben’s wonder strike ensured they’d progress to the semifinal.

MATCH PREVIEW: Manchester United v Manchester City

It had to happen eventually and it has. The roles have swapped and for the first time in almost three decades City arrive at Old Trafford as firm favourites. It’s them chasing the title (after dreams of a Quad…ops Treb…have been stupendously dashed) and it’s United who have got nothing else to play for if not local pride and, small time though it might sound, the chance of scuppering City’s title bid.

MATCH PREVIEW: West Ham United v Manchester United

There’s no rest for the wicked and so, just three days after producing the sort of performance we had been demanding since August, United turn their attention back to the Premier League, desperately hoping to build on Wednesday’s positives to arrive to Tuesday’s night derby in slightly more buoyant mood than they’ve been all season.

Moyes, fans and RVP: talking points from United vs Olympiakos

I may be clouded by the pride and joy I’m currently feeling, but I’m going to try and still take an impartial view on the events tonight. What a difference three days make in football.

PREVIEW: Manchester United v Liverpool

Old Trafford, Manchester
Sunday 16th March 2014 – KO 13:30 GMT – Live on Super Sport
Referee: Mark Clattenburg, Assistants: S Beck and G Beswick, Fourth Official: L Probert

Manchester United face their old rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. This is the match that United really need to win to keep their quest for a UEFA Champions League spot next season on target. A loss would mean they could be even further away from the fourth spot, which is the minimum then need to finish in to qualify for the European elite competition for their 22nd consecutive season.

Match Reaction- Crystal Palace 0-2 Manchester United

Having gone three games without a win, perhaps the FA Cup break benefited United, or perhaps Palace were simply not good enough to cope with the mighty Marouane Fellaini (this, by the way, is a sarcastic remark).

MATCH PREVIEW: Crystal Palace vs Manchester United

Having spent last weekend away in Dubai while other clubs bothered with frivolousness such as the fifth round of the FA Cup and having presumably watched in awe as two of their Premier League rivals – even though it’s hard to fathom they could still see us in  such a light – being taken apart by Bayern and Barcelona, United return to action today.

What it means to be a United fan.

Every aspect of the club has felt slightly different this season. The hole left by Sir Alex Ferguson has left us all in uncharted territory, and has tested every single member of staff, every single player and every single fan. Personally all I’ve ever known is the success of the Ferguson era, and the stability that came with it. It would be easy for me to expect an immediate continuation of that success, and to even feel anger towards Moyes following a disappointing season so far. However, Ferguson’s United taught me everything I need to know about the club. At the heart of those lessons was the message that United will always rise again. Sir Matt Busby led the way in the 1950’s and 60’s, and ever since then the club has forged a path built in his image.

Manchester City: Who are you again?

Yesterday, in the press conference prior to their meeting with Barcelona, Manuel Pellegrini made some sensational claims about Manchester City’s stature when compared to United’s. It was the hot topic of the day it would seem, as some of Barcelona’s’ stars also got involved in the debate, none more so than Daniel Alves.

Match Report: Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United

A point at the Emirates doesn’t do an awful lot for United’s increasingly distant hopes of securing a Champions League slot next season, but the disciplined manner of the performance and a game in which they matched the title hopefuls may bode well for the longer term. Indeed, were it not for Szczesny thwarting Robin Van Persie close to both the beginning and end of the game, United might well have come away with a hard-earned point.

Will United be gunned down again?

What a difference (almost) a year makes. 10 months ago United traveled in great spirits to North London having just clinched the league title, as Arsenal, through grinned teeth, welcomed the newly-crowned champions on the pitch with a guard of honour, while United fans reminded Arsenal fans just how good Robin Van Persie really was.

Match Report: Manchester United 2-2 Fulham

By the end of it, the only surprising thing was that some could still find this abysmal showing surprising. If yesterday was to be the end of the belaguered side we have witnessed for the last six months, then sure enough United delivered in a cruel, yet not uncharecteristic given this season’s standards, way.

Five things we have learnt from United – Cardiff

It wasn’t the all-conquering, marauding display some might have wanted, but after a wretched month, United got back to winning ways with a routine 2-0 victory over Cardiff City. Juan Mata’s league debut in a red shirt went relatively well thanks to a scrappy goal for the returning Robin Van Persie and a third wonderful strike of the season from Ashley Young. Here’s what we made of it:

PREVIEW: Manchester United v Cardiff City

Old Trafford, Manchester
Tuesday 28th January 2014 – KO 8:4pm
Referee: Craig Pawson, Assistants: D Cann and M McDonough, Fourth Official: H Webb

Manchester United face Cardiff City at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening. Two things make this a special evening for the sell out crowd. One is for the return of former striker Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who will visit Old Trafford for the first time as the opposition manager. The second reason is that is could be the debut of new club record signing Juan Mata, who completed his move from Chelsea on Saturday evening for a confirmed fee of £37.1 million, over £7 million more than the previous club record, Dimitar Berbatov who signed for £30.75 million from Tottenham Hotspur in 2008.

United were knocked out of the Capital One Cup at the hands of Gus Poyet’s Sunderland on penalties on Wednesday evening, which was a let down as United could have had a morale boosting trip to Wembley for the League Cup final against rivals Manchester City, but you cannot have it all. The rumours surrounding the transfer of Juan Mata began to take pace from Thursday, with a confirmation by the Old Trafford club on Friday evening. The signing of Mata and the plans of David Moyes for the future of the club could also result in Wayne Rooney signing a new contract, which would be another morale boost for the club.

United could have Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Juan Mata and Adnan Januzaj up against Cardiff City on Tuesday evening, which would be enough to cause any Barclays Premier League defence problems during the 90 minutes, but there is a chance that both Rooney and van Persie will not play due to their respective injuries. David Moyes seems to have also lost Michael Carrick due to injury, with his latest injury caused against Sunderland midweek. Rio Ferdinand, Marouane Fellaini and Nani are also on the sidelines and doubts for this match.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær only has one player on the sidelines through injury, Andrew Taylor. The former United striker has done some good business already during this transfer window signing former United youth players Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Mats Møller Dæhli, also adding Jo Inge Berget. Today added three more players to his squad (which are yet to be confirmed), former United defender Fabio da Silva, who will join on a permanent deal, Wilfried Zaha who will join the club on loan for the remainder of the season from United and Kenwyne Jones, who was swapped with Stoke City for Peter Odemwingie, and Solskjær is not finished there.

I cant miss this game for anything.

United pay a Capital penalty

There’s something quintessentially United about snatching victory from the jaws of defeat with the last kick of the game.

MATCH POST MORTEM: Chelsea 3-1 Manchester United

The last time Samuel Eto’o thwarted our hearts, Manchester United were playing their second Champions League final in 12 months and things looked rather different.
